Kerala Telecom reports a record de-growth on SIM Card Activations for the month of August'2012

In spite of Onam hype, Kerala telecom operators report's a record de-growth of 25% on SIM card sales compared to July'2012. Numbers never dropped to this much in the history of last 3 years. All major operators de-grown numbers even though there was huge MNP port-ins from Uninor, as most of the operators got this benefit in the month of August (on 24th July, Uninor announced their scaling down of operations in Kerala including other 4 circles).

Operators reported a 5% growth over previous month in 2011 Onam season.

Bharti Airtel leads in De-growth followed by Voda and Idea. But the same time Reliance, Aicel, Tata Docomo and MTS registered a growth in their overall gross adds. Infact Tata docomo was the major beneficent of Uninor port-ins. Aircel also got significant share of MNP port-ins from Uninor.

This drop in SIM card sales will directly impact the gross revenues of operators whoever have dropped their gross adds significantly. This will reflect in their Q2 revenues. But as per the officials, Onam recharge hype will reduce the impact of recharge drop to some levels. SMS restriction from August 17th to 30th also affected the revenues of Telecom operators.
