Exclusive: Uninor Planning to scale down operations in 4 circles including Kerala.


Today uninor management disclosed that they are going to scale down operations in 4 telecom circles inorder to focus resources to 9 most profitable circles in India. Uninor has a total of 13 circles operational as of now.


Telenor's India unit is among eight carriers who are set to lose a total 122 zonal permits in September after a Supreme Court order to revoke all telecoms licences granted in a scandal-tainted 2008 sale.

Recently uninor had scaled up their gross acquisitions and improved their soga strength. But it was all of a sudden that they have decided to stop operations in 4 circles.

As per the lastest updates the selected circles are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha. This will result in a gradual scale down of operations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Orissa circles. Anyway network will remain operational and scale down would be gradual. They might stop new acquisitions in these slected four cirlces and existing customers would get a 30days notive period before they start any scale down activity.

Uninor has 68 lacs customers in this four circles and out of that 31 lac customers are active.

But on the other side company has strong plans to strengthen its operations in the remaining 9 circles.
