Kerala ID fraud cases : Police asks explanation from telecom operators

On the view of avoiding ID proof fraud cases, Kerala police call for a meeting of company chiefs to check misuse Identity proofs submitted by customers at the time of SIM card purchase.

Police have nabbed some executives working for telecom operators for some recent fraudulent cased registered with kerala police.

Some good practices to avoid this fraudulent cases are:

1. While submitting an ID proof for a new connection, write your mobile number you have purchased and mention the company name and date of purchase, like you are crossing a cheque leaf.
"This proof is submitted to Vodafone for the purchase of 9847099999 on 16th July 2012"

2. Purchase connection from known outlets / of buy it directly from the showrooms run by telecom companies. You can find these outlets in the major towns of Kerala. While purchaing the connection, ensure that you have filled up the enrollment form properly. In most of the cases customers are not even bothered to fill up this form, instead of that they are simply giving their identity proof and photogrpah to retailer by simply putting their signature in the relevant parts and remaining portion is kept unfilled. this might cause fraud. Application form has to be completed, customers should spare atleast 5 minutes on this to avoid possible issues in future.

3. If you are planning to change your SIM then dispose your old SIM card properly. If possible inform your operator to bar the service from that number.
