No more Extra Charging for SMS / Calls on Blackout Days

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India issued directive to all telecom operators of India to stop charging extra on Blackout days for SMS and calls. It is now a practice that operators are charging more on SMS and calls on festival days which is announced as Blackout days.

But as per the directive of TRAI, it is mentioned that Operators should not charge more Tariff for Calls and SMS which is more than the base tariff of the customer under any circumstances. This will give more trasparency of billing especially on the black out days.

Currently as per the directive of TRAI - Operators can select 5 festival days as black out days during the year. But this has to be predefined before the year starts and the same has to be displayed on the website of the respective operator. Blackout days, once defined cannot be changed during the year. The information about the base tariff charging should be intimated to the customers well in advance.
