MTS plans to launch app for mobile payment through cards

MTS to conduct pilot with e-commerce firms flipkart.com, yebhi.com on MTS MTag 3.1 Smartphones


Sistema Shyam Teleservices, which offer telecom services under the MTS brand, plans to power its smartphones with a card swipe device which would facilitate mobile payment through credit or debit cards.
"MTS is conducting pilot with e-commerce firms Flipkart.Com and Yebhi.Com on MTS MTag 3.1 Smartphones. The pilot is for two weeks after which it will launched for commercial sales," an company official said.


Smartphone user would have to download an application for using the mPOS technology.

"Signature of the debit or credit card holder can be taken on the phone screen. Ther user will will get message on completion of transaction. The money will be transferred directly in to the account of merchant," the official said.

The company is targeting retailers, home-delivery based service models like e-commerce players, food chains, pizza delivery outlets and companies into direct sales model like FMCG etc for using this product.

The official said that at no point card data is saved on the phone or on the mPOS attachment.

"The transactions conducted will be secure and safe. The entire end-to-end solution is PCI (Payment Card industry) DSS (Data Security Standards) compliant," he said.

The company is yet to finalise a date for commercial launch of this product
